Neillsville School Board Approves Safety Plan and Maintenance Bids

Thursday, May 2nd, 2019 -- 10:48 AM

-The Neillsville School Board approved several safety plan and maintenance bids at their meeting on Monday.

The Neillsville School District is working on making more secure entrances and offices at the district. Work on both items is expected to begin in June once the school year has ended. The district received several bids for the project and they were all approved. The bids approved included a flooring bid from Russell’s of Neillsville for an amount not to exceed $2,780.30, an electrical bid from Randy’s Electric for an amount not to exceed $2,500, an exterior wall construction bid from Erickson Construction for an amount not to exceed $2,400, a masonry bid from Ryno’s Masonry for an amount not to exceed $5,100, a windows and doors bid from Sav-Rite Building Center for an amount not to exceed $42,988, an electronics locks bid from Advantage Security Group for an amount not to exceed $6,000, a fire system bid from Ban-Koe Systems for an amount not to exceed $5,000 and an office desks bid from Marshfield Book and Stationary for an amount not to exceed $17,245. The district will be using money from the school safety grants from the state to pay for this project.

The board also approved an agreement to become an RVA Affiliated member. The Rural Virtual Academy, or RVA, is run by the Medford School District and involves online learning. The cost for a student to take an online class on their own is $29 and $50 if a teacher is involved. This program also gives the district access to hundreds of online courses and information for just $150. The program also handles special education and could have substantial cost savings and save time for the district’s teachers. The board approved a one year agreement, but could approve a longer agreement if they’re satisfied with the service.
