Clark County Chapter of Friends of the Black River Have Successful Clean-Up

Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 -- 10:55 AM

-The Clark County Chapter of the Friends of the Black River held their rive clean-up this past weekend.

The Friends of the Black River began in Jackson County and their mission is to foster a community appreciation and understanding in a sustainable use of the river and its watershed by hosting educational and enjoyable programs, events and conservation projects and by promoting wise decision making when issues affect the health of the Black River basin. A local man, Adam Marciniak, decided to start a chapter in Clark County after noticing all the trash in the river during his many fishing trips. This past Saturday, they had 48 volunteers that worked around 3 hours to help clean the river.

They covered around ¾ of mile of O’Neil Creek, 2 and ¾ mile of road way and approximately 10 acers of public land. They recovered 58 tires in the stretch. The Clark County Chapter of the Friends of the Black River wanted to thank all the volunteers for their hard work and all those that have supported this project. The group would like to do another clean up this fall. They also hope to turn the event into more of a community festival. Make sure to tune in tomorrow to hear my nterview with Adam regarding the clean-up.
