CORRECTION: Neillsville Woman Arrested During City Council Meeting Found Guilty of Disorderly Conduct at Court Trial

Tuesday, April 30th, 2019 -- 1:56 PM

-A Neillsville woman, who was arrested and removed from a City Council meeting, was found not guilty of the charges against her during a court trial.

Back in October of 2017, Linda Montgomery appeared before the council to speak against an ordinance that had been passed regarding the use of sidewalks. Montgomery uses a personal scooter and has been seen driving on roads in busy traffic, sometimes with kids on the scooter. She became very belligerent towards the council and mayor, swearing at them and making false accusations. Eventually, Neillsville’s Police Chief, and two officers who were present at the meeting because they knew she was coming, escorted her out of city hall. As she continued to swear, make false accusations and be disorderly, she was arrested and taken to the Clark County Jail.

In a state case against Montgomery, she had been charged with resisting/obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct, but the charges against her were dismissed on the prosecutor’s motion back in May of last year. In two cases the City of Neillsville had brought against her, she was facing charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing/interfering with an officer. She was found not guilty of the resisting charge, but she was found guilty of the disorderly conduct charge. This results in only a money penalty for that charge.
