Plumbers Needed to Replace Lead Service Lines in Wisconsin

Friday, April 26th, 2019 -- 8:53 AM

(WRN) -Plumbers are needed to replace lead service lines in Wisconsin.

The job pays 42-dollars-an-hour, but Plumbers Union Local 75 in Milwaukee says a growing workload is driving the need for more workers qualified to replace lead pipes. One plumber says they used to do 50-to-60 lead line replacements each year -- now they're doing hundreds.

Replacing lead pipes in one home costs 10-thousand dollars and takes one worker a full day. There are 170-thousand lead service lines in the state.
