Public Works Report and More at Owen City Council Meeting

Tuesday, April 16th, 2019 -- 7:59 AM

-The Owen City Council heard the Public Works Report at their meeting last week.

The Public Works Director reported that ‘flushable wipes’ are an issue. They are clogging up the motors in the lift stations. The council also heard the Police Report. Owen Police Chief Jesus Ibarra reported ‘vaping’ is an issue both at the school and in the community. He recommended that the city ordinances be updated to disallow ‘vaping’ in public places. The council also heard an update regarding the lawsuit of their former police chief, Andrew Schade. The city’s liability insurance carrier issued a statement saying “we moved to dismiss the claim last year. In response, recognizing that we had a good chance of winning on the motion, Schade had filed an amended complaint, trying to fix the deficiencies in the original complaint.”

He continued, “Only a breach of contract claim was added to the original claims. We will likely move to dismiss parts of this complaint as well and file an answer to the complaint.” Finally, the council approved allowing the Public Works Director and City Clerk to attend the League of Wisconsin Municipalities Policyholder Conference to be held May 8th and 9th at Wisconsin Dells.
