Wisconsin Total Cheese Production

Saturday, April 6th, 2019 -- 7:17 AM

Wisconsin's total cheese production was down again in February compared to the previous year, making it the third consecutive month the state's dairy plants reported lower output.

The latest dairy product summary from the USDA notes that the state churned out 258.8 million pounds of cheese during the month, which was down 1.6 percent from a year earlier, and 6.4 less than this past January, which had more days on the calendar. Nationally, about 991 million pounds of cheese was produced in the United States in February.

That was 0.5 percent more than the same month last year, but 9.7 percent less than the previous month's production totals. Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 20.4 million pounds, which was down 28.8 percent from last year, and 5.8 percent less compared to last month. (Wisconsin Ag Connection)
