Winter Energy Moratorium Ending Soon

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019 -- 7:47 AM

(WRN) -If you're behind on your heating bill, it's time to get paid up.

The end of the Winter Energy Moratorium is coming up, and if you're behind on bills, it's time to get in touch with your utility. We Energies spokeswoman Alison Trouy says disconnection is always their last resort.

"If a customer does get disconnected, they're going to have to pay a fee to reconnect, so it's in their best interests to give us a call."

Trouy says there is assistance available if you're behind.

"There are agencies across the state that can help people figure out if they're and apply."

Trouy says under state law, utilities can't turn off the heat during the winter months.

"So that ends on April 15th, so April 16th, we can start disconnecting people."

Utilities will also help you out with payment plans, because disconnection is a last resort.
