Senator Baldwin Part of Effort to Help Children Born with Birth Defects

Thursday, February 28th, 2019 -- 12:34 PM

(WRN) -Senator Tammy Baldwin is part of an effort to help get medical coverage for children born with birth defects and congenital conditions.

Baldwin says some more common birth defects like cleft palates are sometimes not covered by primary insurance.

"If a condition needs treatment that's not covered by insurance, but is medically necessary, the insurance has to cover that."

Baldwin says the bill's got bipartisan support, and families are in Washington pushing for a vote.

"I hope that we're able to get greater and greater support for it and that we can at least get a hearing, if not action, pretty soon."

The bill would help cover treatment for issues that aren't lifesaving but are medically necessary.
