Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin Voting No on President's National Emergency Declaration

Wednesday, February 27th, 2019 -- 12:28 PM

(WRN) -Senator Tammy Baldwin says she's ready to vote against President Trump's national emergency declaration.

Senator Tammy Baldwin says she's prepared to vote against President Trump's national emergency declaration. Trump is planning on shifting funds away from military base renovations to spend it on his wanted border wall. Baldwin says people should be worried about the precedent that the move would set.

"These are serious matters to have any president of any party ignoring the constitution of the United States and spending money how they please rather for intended purposes."

Baldwin says if President Trump gets his wish, Wisconsin soldiers and airmen will feel the pain.

"Wisconsin is facing the prospect of having funding that was appropriated for barracks and family housing at Fort McCoy taken away for Trump's wall."

She says President Trump is planning on diverting funds from the Army Corps of Engineers.

"We're talking about infrastructure that helps protect us from disasters, and frankly we've had too many recently, whether it's hurricane damage or flooding damage."

She calls the efforts unconstitutional and that allowing the President to do this sets up a dangerous precedent for the future.
