Wisconsin Working to Return Unclaimed Money and Property to Residents

Thursday, February 21st, 2019 -- 8:55 AM

(WRN) -Wisconsin is working hard to return unclaimed money and property to residents.

Wisconsin is working hard to return unclaimed money and property to residents. Right now the state's sitting on over half a billion dollars of property. Erin Egan with the Department of Revenue says they're going to be automating some of the process of getting property back to its rightful owners.

"We systematically tax return information against unclaimed property records, and if we find a match, we will send out a check for you without making you file a claim!"

Egan with the Department of Revenue says there's a staggering amount of unclaimed property in Wisconsin.

"Right now we have about 575 million dollars in unclaimed property that we're holding on to for people."

Egan with the Department of Revenue says the state's been working to make it easier to claim property that is owed to you.

"It's very easy to check our website to see if people have property available. You just go to revenue dot W I dot gov, and do a keyword search for unclaimed property."

You can search for your name and file claims online at revenue dot W I dot G O V.
