Owen-Withee School Board Discusses Employment Matters

Monday, February 18th, 2019 -- 8:01 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board approved the retirement of a district employee at their meeting last week.

The board unanimously approved the retirement of Mike Pankratz, 5th grade teacher, who will retire at the end of the school year. The board thanked Mr. Pankratz for his 29 years of service to the district and wishes him the best of luck in his retirement. The board also discussed the upcoming Legislative Forum. It will be held in Medford on Monday, March 4th. The annual forum, which will feature several of the legislators who represent our area, will be attended by board members Julie Wendler, Dean Schmelzer, Charlie Milliren, and Angela Greschner. The board also reviewed and discussed the audit that covered the last school year.

A number of items were identified by the auditors as needing attention. These items, which are identified every year, involve the segregation of duties and are identified in almost all smaller districts. To resolve the issue, the district would need to hire two more business office employees just to double-check the work of our current employees. Over the years, our auditors have suggested ways to segregate the duties and the district has implemented those suggestions.
