Owen-Withee School Board Approves Some Changes For 2019

Sunday, February 17th, 2019 -- 7:11 AM

The Owen-Withee School Board discussed moving the 6th grade into the middle school at their meeting on Monday.

High School Dean of Students Julie Van Ark presented to the board information about this idea that has been discussed for the past year or so. She identified which rooms will be used, presented a mock schedule and showed how lunch will be handled for students in grades 4K-12. After discussion the Board unanimously approved the idea to begin in the fall of 2019. The board also discussed their upcoming referendum and timeline. District Administrator Bob Houts led a discussion about the April 2nd referendum and the timeline for getting information out to the community. Much of the information will start to be communicated beginning around March 1st.

The board also approved the purchase of a new phone system. The board reviewed bids that were submitted by Frontier and Heartland Business systems to replace the district’s current phone systems. The Frontier bid was for $26,516, while the Heartland bid was for $29,328. The board unanimously approved the Frontier bid. The phone system, which is being paid for by a Wisconsin Department of Justice School Safety Grant, will be installed in June of 2019.
