Reconstruction Work on North Central Avenue in Marshfield Set to Begin this Summer

(Marshfield News Herald) -Work on the postponed reconstruction of North Central Avenue, a portion of State 97, will begin this spring and last through the summer.The $2.1 million project, originally scheduled for last summer, was postponed in May after construction bids came in higher than anticipated. Cost estimates for the entire project last year fell between $1 million and $1.5 million.The cost came in higher than anticipated this year because there was only one bidder for the project, eliminating the opportunity for competitive pricing, said Tegan Griffith, communications manager for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's North Central Region.
The increased total will drive the city's portion of the cost up to about $75,000,nearly doubling last year's estimate of $41,000. Construction is set to begin in late April or early May and last through August, according to the DOT. Workers will focus on the stretch of North Central Avenue between Arnold Street and Harrison street.
