Reminder: Neillsville Fire Department Asking Residents to "Adopt a Fire Hydrant"

Thursday, February 14th, 2019 -- 1:46 PM

-Just a reminder, the Neillsville Fire Department is asking residents to “adopt a fire hydrant.”

Due to our excessive snowfall, many of Neillsville’s fire hydrants can’t even be seen. The Neillsville Fire Department is asking residents to “adopt a fire hydrant” in front of, near or even down the street from their home and clean the snow away from them. The department says a 6 foot circle around the hydrant would be ideal and it’s important this is done, so the department can effectively respond to an emergency should one arise.

Also, check dryer vents or other vents from heating appliances to make sure they’re free of snow. Check inside those vents as well as the snow can make its way down the pipes. If you can safely remove snow from your roof, that should also be done. We’ve received reports of multiple fixes needing to be done on roofs due to the heavy snow. Don’t forget to check your gas, water and electric meters as well.
