Slow Down During Bad Winter Weather

Thursday, February 14th, 2019 -- 1:44 PM

(WRN) -A number of close calls for plow drivers and police out on slick roads this week is prompting reminders and warnings about unsafe driving.

Slick roads and icy conditions are promoting sheriffs departments to remind people to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles. Dane County sheriff's spokeswoman Elise Schaefer says people need to drive slower than the usually do, and give everyone else on the roads plenty of room.

"Our conditions right now aren't great as we all know, and so you can't be going the speed limit and expect to be able stop on dime like you normally can."

Schaefer says drivers need to expect to be going slower than the posted speed limit in many areas.

"Make sure, again, that we're giving people extra room and we're driving according to the conditions."

Schaefer says that emergency services are out on the roads doing their job in the snow helping other drivers.

"We also need people to help us out and make sure when you see us on the side of the road that you're going slow and moving over when you can."

A State Patrol officer was injured in a crash in Monroe County Tuesday night, and there have been numerous close calls across the state.
