Board President of Central Wisconsin State Fair Resigns

Thursday, February 7th, 2019 -- 8:02 AM

(Marshfield News Herald) -The board president of the Central Wisconsin State Fair resigned last month after the board learned he had posted "derogatory" political comments on social media, according to the fair's director.

Jeff Hartman, who had headed the fair's board since May 2017, resigned from the board at the organization's Jan. 21 board meeting. The same night, Peggy Sue Meyer-Miller became the new board president for the fair, which sets direction and policy for the more than 100-year-old annual event. Fair director Dale Christiansen confirmed in an email that Hartman had resigned. Hartman in text message wrote that the posts that spurred his resignation were political in nature. "It was brought to our attention that the CWSF President had posted derogatory comments on social media," Christiansen's email stated. "The CWSF Board wishes to express that they do not condone or support these views."

Christiansen declined further comment and didn't characterize the topic of the posts. Prior to the discussion of his social media posts, Hartman had been up for re-election at the January meeting.
