Clark County Residents Vote as they Usually Do in Tuesday's Election

Tuesday, November 6th, 2018 -- 11:51 PM

-Here are the unofficial election results for Clark County.

Clark County voted as the usually do with the Republicans having a good night in the county. For Governor, Republican Governor Scott Walker and Republican Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch received 7,469 votes over Democrat and State Schools Superintendent Tony Evers’ and Mandela Barnes’ 3,994 votes. For state senator, Senator Tammy Baldwin, a Democrat, received 5,079 votes compared to her Republican opponent Leah Vukmir’s 6,359. For the 7th Congressional District, Republican Assemblyman Sean Duffy received 7,886 votes over his Democratic opponent, Margaret Engebretson’s 3,521. Also, Attorney General Brad Schimel, a Republican, received 7,146 votes compared to Democrat Josh Kaul’s 4,077 for Attorney General; Republican Jay Schroeder received 6,785 votes compared to Democrat Doug La Follette’s 4,612 for Secretary of State; and Republican Travis Hartwig received 6,791 votes compared to Democrat Sarah Godlewski’s 4,133 for State Treasurer.

Some of the more local race results include Republican Kathy Bernier’s 7,352 votes compared to Democrat Chris Kapsner’s 3,914 for the 23rd Senate District which includes Clark County and the surrounding area. Also, Republican Bob Kulp received 6,499 votes over write in candidate, and Democrat, Kathleen Rulka’s 266. Scott Haines received 9,746 votes for Clark County Sheriff, Richard Schleifer received 9,804 votes for Clark County Coroner and Heather Bravener received 8,503 votes for Clark County Clerk of Courts.

Finally, some other items of note on the Clark County Ballot include a referendum for those living in the Loyal School District. The referendum was approved with 716 yes votes compared to 495 no votes. The referendum asks residents to authorize the school district to exceed the revenue limit by $280,000 for this school year for building maintenance and by $675,000 for the next school year through the 2022-2023 school year for operational expenses. Also, countywide, on the ballot is a question asking whether county residents support legalizing the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes and regulating it in the same manner as prescription drugs. The referendum was overwhelmingly approved with 7,674 voting yes and 3,763 voting no. To clarify, this simply means it will be sent to the Wisconsin Legislature showing Clark County supports the legalization. It doesn’t mean that medicinal marijuana is legal in the county and state.
