Marshfield School District's New Athletic Facility $200,000 Shy of Fundraising Goal

Friday, October 19th, 2018 -- 8:04 AM

(Marshfield News Herald) -The Marshfield School District is just $200,000 away from reaching its $7 million fundraising goal for a new athletic facility.

Director of Business Services Patrick Saucerman confirmed the district's progress in fundraising as it continues preparation for the new stadium, which will be constructed near the northeast end of Marshfield Senior High's parking lot, and will be used for football, track and soccer. The $11 million project began with relocating the high school's bus transfer lot from the front of the school to the back. Saucerman said the new lot has been fully operational since the beginning of this school year. In addition, a new student parking lot is being built on the southeast corner of the school, Saucerman said. The parking lot is being constructed in two phases. The portion closest to Becker Road is expected to be finished in November, he said. Construction on the back portion of the parking lot, as well as preliminary work on the new stadium will begin after. New plans, along with an additional $700,000 to spend, were approved in April by the Marshfield School Board.

The extra funds allow the district to include ticket booths, extra lighting and seating, a military memorial, press boxes, a home-side storage area and upgrades to score boards and the entrance/plaza area. The project also includes a new baseball field built just west of the high school; a new softball field across the street, near Madison Elementary School; renovations at the existing track and football practice fields at Marshfield Middle School, which will be reused for middle school gym classes and extracurricular activities such as soccer and football; he stadium site also will be open to the public to be used as a walking track and for other recreational activities, according to the district's website; and a rebuilt track at the middle school. Saucerman said the entire project is expected to be finished in time for the 2019-2020 school year.
