Preparedness Exercise Taking Place in Abbotsford October 27th

Wednesday, October 17th, 2018 -- 8:01 AM

-The City of Abbotsford will be participating in a preparedness exercise on Saturday, October 27th.

Organizations from the city and state will participate in the exercise on the morning of the 27th and it’s expected to take four hours. The exercise is being conducted in order to test and improve the community’s overall preparedness for an emergency event. The fictional exercise will simulate a chemical release. Exercise participants will simulate responding to an anhydrous ammonia release. The exercise participants will react to this incident as if it were actually happening. They will establish an Incident Command Center, don chemical resistant suits and mitigate the simulated release. Just a reminder, this incident won’t be real, but the response activities during the fictional exercise will be practiced in a manner to make it as realistic as possible.

Abbyland Foods Inc., Central Fire District, Marathon County Emergency Response Team, The American Red Cross, Clark County Emergency Management, Taylor County Emergency Management and Aspirus MedEvac will all be participating. The exercise area will take place at the Abbyland Foods facility on East Linden Street. The area will be clearly marked. For your safety, and in order to complete the exercise in a realistic environment, the exercise area will not be open to the public. Again, the event will not be real, and they apologize for any disruptions this may pose. However, the encourage residents to use this opportunity to make a plan, prepare a kit and be well informed.
