New Library Board Member and More at Owen City Council Meeting

-The Owen City Council approved a library board member at their meeting last week.

The council approved the appointment of Sally Martine to the Owen Public Library Board. During the public opinion portion of the meeting, one resident thanked the council for letting her and her husband, a city employee, to attend a Symposium in Kentucky. Another resident inquired about her property on E. 3rd Street. It was also stated that the Planning Committee would hold meetings the fourth Wednesday of the next ten months, excluding December, to work on the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Owen. The council also approved the appointment of Jamie Pichla as Deputy City Clerk as recommended by the Personnel Committee. Jamie will work 25 hours per week at a rate of $13 per hour, beginning October 22nd.

Finally, the council heard the Community Development Authority’s Report. Tim Swiggum thanked the council for allowing him and his wife to attend the America in Bloom Symposium in Kentucky. Tim learned, that to increase the city’s rating, they would have to reinstate the tree board along with other Urban Forestry Educational programs. Tim thanked Ally Milbert, Marion Engelbretson, and the Public Works Department for planting the recently purchased trees. Also, the Heartland Wetland Permit is now onto the next step, the 30-day Public Notice. Finally, Autumnfest is October 20th at the Old School, with much still to be done.
