More Local School Districts Selected in 2nd Round of School Safety Grants

-Attorney General Brad Schimel announced that the Wisconsin Department of Justice was awarded $2,200,000 by the United States Department of Justice to support school safety efforts in Wisconsin for mental health training, technology reporting, and violence threat assessments.

Attorney General Schimel also announced 263 schools and school districts will receive $21,281,933 from the second round of the DOJ School Safety Grant program, which focuses on advanced initiatives to bolster student mental health. The first federal award by the USDOJ Bureau of Justice Assistance provides $1 million to supplement state funding to increase the number of schools that will be provided evidence-based trainings adolescent mental health. The second grant provides Wisconsin DOJ with $1 million to supplement state funding to increase the number of schools that will be provided training on school violence threat assessment teams, standard response protocols, school safety intervention teams, and standard reunification methods.

Six more local school districts have been selected in this round of grants including Abbotsford with $51,125, Granton with $12,698, Owen-Withee with $37,219, Spencer with $39,313, Stanley-Boyd with $59,737 and Thorp with $33,899. These districts join Neillsville ($51,581), Loyal ($28,328), Greenwood ($21,355) and Colby ($49,707) who were also selected to receive funds in the second round of grants.
