Day Two of the Central Wisconsin State Fair a Big Success

Thursday, August 23rd, 2018 -- 9:08 AM

(WDLB) -Day Two of the Central Wisconsin State Fair in Marshfield is being called a huge success. After a hectic first day, Executive Director Dale Christianson said yesterday went much better.

"A lot of it on the first day was the weekend moving up to the fair with the Kennel Club Show and the Livestock Show going in here. And people not being able to get in here and get set up in advance on the weekend. It was just a mad rush with all the exhibits coming in, all the food stands coming in, our commercial space, carnival rolling in. Everything hit at once and it was a bit of a storm. But today, everyone was pretty much set in spots and it just went a whole lot smoother."

There were great crowds for John Michael Montgomery on the grandstand stage last night. The Memories played to a packed Family Entertainment Tent during Senior Citizens' Day yesterday afternoon. The new carnival made its debut on Wednesday afternoon as well. Christianson said there was lots of early activity at the ticket booths.

"They were very pleased. Advance wrist band sales went far better then they anticipated for the first year. And as you walk down there, just the amount of equipment that they have and there's just a lot of things to do. And I haven't heard too many negative complaints about it at all."

Today is change-over day from the Junior Fair to the Open Class on the dairy side.

"And what's that going to do, a transition on a Thursday afternoon and evening, should not effect our attendance as much as it did on Friday. Because if you have people coming out wanting to see things on Friday and you have animals moving in and out and that commotion around there, it's going to be a whole lot smoother on Friday. And we're really looking forward to that. We think that's going to be a big addition to our Friday, Saturday, Sunday shows."

There were lots of bidders and buyers at last night's Market Animal Sale in the Jer Lang show palace. Sawyer Brown plays the grandstand stage at 7:30 tonight, followed by Night Ranger tomorrow night, also at 7:30. For more information, log on to centralwisconsinstatefair.com.
