Haines Beats Herrick in Election Primary for Clark County Sheriff

Wednesday, August 15th, 2018 -- 11:41 AM

-Scott Haines has won the Republican Primary over Greg Herrick for Clark County Sheriff.

Haines received 1,783 votes over Clark County Sheriff Greg Herrick's 1,693 votes. Haines has ran against Herrick on multiple occasions, traditionally as Democrat, but has never won in the past. All though this may clear the path for Haines to assume the mantel of sheriff after the November election, a write-in candidate, Herrick being a possibility, could still win the election. In other election news, in Clark County Governor Walker easily won is primary against his challenger Robert Meyer, 2,756 to 582. Governor Walker was declared the victor for the entire state not long after polls closed. He received 92% of the vote. His challenger in November will be State Superintendent Tony Evers. Evers easily won Clark County with 780 votes. His next closest challenger was Kathleen Vinehout with 155 votes.

Evers was declared the winner for the entire state with 42% the vote. Malhon Mitchell was his closest competitor for the state with 17% of the vote. Another notable race was the Republican Primary for Wisconsin State Senator. In Clark County, Kevin Nicholson beat Leah Vukmir, 1,684 to 940. However, Leah Vukmir was victorious around the state, beating Nicholson with 50% of the vote to his 43%. Vukmir will take on Tammy Baldwin in the November Elections. Also, Margaret Engebretson will take on Shawn Duffy for the 7th District in the November Elections. Engebretson won statewide, but her challenger Brian Ewert won Clark County, 707 votes to 508.
