Granton Village Board Discusses Old Safe at Village Office

-The Granton Village Board discussed a safe in the village office at their meeting on Wednesday of last week.According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the village office used to be a bank and there is a large walk in safe in the office. There is a large mold issue caused by standing water. The documents stored in the safe are wet and moldy and the smell is awful. Although the safe is kept shut, the clerk enters the safe several times a day and the smell permeates the office. There is a dehumidifier in the safe that is emptied twice a day. This helps but will not solve the problem long term. The clerk is purchasing rubber made tubs to store the documents in, labeling them and storing them in the basement. Once the safe is emptied, it can be bleached and the moldy wood removed. They also discussed water service at two homes. These two houses are on the same water line as the one house used to be a garage for the main house.
The new owner is fixing up the property and plans to sell in March. It would be appreciated if the village corrected the problem now before it goes on the market. The property was inspected but to provide water from the street would probably mean the loss of the very large pine tree. The problem will be re-evaluated in the daylight. Finally, the board approved to replace Ordinance 181 with Ordinance 181A, updating all verbiage from constable/police to police or village employee and change impounding fee from 2 dollars per day to all costs pertaining to the impound.
