Loyal Man Sentenced for Death of Passenger in Snowmobile Accident

Monday, July 30th, 2018 -- 11:16 AM

-A Loyal man was sentenced for a snowmobile accident that resulted in the death of his passenger in Clark County Court on Friday.

According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, back in February of 2017, they received a 911 call of a snowmobile accident located north east of Catlin Ave/STH 98 in the Township of Sherman. Steven Lauenstein lost control of his snowmobile when they entered a wooded area and his passenger, 34-year-old Robert Kurz, was ejected and died from his injuries. The sheriff’s department stated that speed and alcohol appeared to be factors in the accident.

Back in April, Lauenstein pleaded guilty to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. Four other counts were dismissed and read in. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison and 5 years extended supervision. He was also sentenced to 50 hours of community service and he owes the courts $176.
