Neillsville City Council Discusses DNR Grant and More at Tuesday Meeting

-The Neillsville City Council discussed and approved a few items at their meeting on Tuesday.

The council approved the appropriation of the DNR Urban Forestry Grant. This grant is what will be used to pay for the city’s large tree removal project. The project was done to help fight the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer. The council also approved allowing the Neillsville Chamber of Commerce use Sniteman Town Square, the Gazebo and to close some streets for their Autumn Harvest Fest. The council also heard some committee reports. They heard the Police and Fire Commission Report from July 19th. The commission approved the hiring of Nate McDonald, Zackery Stift, Cody Northup and Joshua Krause as firefighters for Neillsville. The council also heard the Heritage Days Committee Report from July 18th. The committee discussed several updates including the Blindman’s Volleyball, the Bean Bag Tournament, Miss Neillsville, the golf outing and bands and activities for the 2019 Heritage Days.

The council also heard the Neillsville Public Library Board report from July 17th. The board discussed Wisconsin Trustee Week and heard about this month’s library activities. Finally, the council heard the Public Works Report. The usual amount of work was done in the city including cemetery and parks maintenance, equipment maintenance, trimming and pruning trees, maintain street lighting, filling pot holes, cleaning brush and compost, street sweeping and more. They’re also working on some curb and gutter, street paving and more.
