Fairchild Man Sentenced for 6th OWI

Tuesday, July 24th, 2018 -- 10:06 AM

-A Fairchild man arrested for OWI during a traffic stop back in March was sentenced in Jackson County Court on Monday.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on Highway 10 in Jackson County near Hill Road. The vehicle continued to drive at slow speed until it pulled into the driver’s residence. The driver exited his vehicle and attempted to go into his house. The trooper took the male driver, Daniel Richards, into custody after a brief struggle. Richards was taken to the Jackson County Jail where he refused a blood test. A warrant for the blood draw was issued and he was taken to Black River Memorial Hospital. A blood draw was taken without incident and Richards was transported back to the Jackson County Jail where he is being held on felony OWI charges, his 6th offense.

Richards was initially going to have a preliminary hearing and arraignment on Monday, but a plea was entered and he was sentenced instead. He was found guilty of his 6th OWI. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison and 3 years’ extended supervision. He also had his license revoked for 3 years and will have an ignition interlock device for 3 years. He also owes the courts $600.
