Three Girls Vying for the Title of Fairest of the Fair

Friday, July 20th, 2018 -- 11:37 AM

-With the Clark County Fair just a couple short weeks away, it’s time to meet the newest candidates for Clark County Fairest of the Fair.

The new court will replace outgoing court, which include Fairest of the Fair Krista Rueth, 1st Attendant Katie Schmelzer and 2nd Attendant Janalee Kapusta. Krista talked about her year as Fairest of the Fair and she offered some advice for the candidates running this year.

"My year has been crazy busy, but I wouldn't want it any other way. One of my favorite things that I did was going to the State Fair Convention in January. It was in the Dells and there were probably 40 other Fairest of the Fairs there from other counties. We were running for the Wisconsin Fairest of the Fairs. But it was really just three days of education about fairs, about Fairest Programs, how we can improve our program. It was a really cool experience. I met a lot of awesome people and, even though I obviously didn't win, it was a really cool experience. Something that I'll never forget for sure."

"We want to a lot of benefits and fundraisers this year, which I think is really cool that we could help out at those. We went to the Pulling for Plaskey. We went to the pig roast. It's just really cool for me to get out there and give back to people who need it. And what a great way to do it while representing the county. Another fun thing that we did is we went to the Dairy Breakfasts this year in Clark County and we got to help out at those. And so seeing so many familiar faces in Clark County while I'm there and serving them their eggs. It was a really fun experience and another thing I won't forget. It was so much fun. It's such a good time getting out there, seeing people, representing Clark County and talking about the fair."

"My advice is go to everything you can. Have the best time doing whatever you're doing. Make the best out of everything. Always have a schedule set. Towards the beginning of the year, I would just text the girls and say 'hey, we have this going on.' But this summer we had so many things, so I bought a calendar and wrote everything down and set them, probably like 7 different times, a picture of it because I kept changing things. I think having a set schedule really helped me. So, set a schedule, make do to lists. It'll make things easier."

One candidate for Fairest of the Fair this year is last year’s Miss Neillsville Dana Bautch who’s being sponsored by the Neillsville FFA Alumni. Dana explained why she decided to run for Fairest of the Fair, what she’s looking forward to if she’s selected and these words of advice for younger girls who are considering running for a program like Fairest of the Fair.

"I originally found out about because I was Miss Neillsville this past year and I thought it was an excellent experience and opportunity to represent my county a little bit better and get to know my county better."

"I'm looking forward being able to go to all the different cities around Clark County and even some neighboring counties, that way I can get to know both the people and cities better. That way, I get a better sense of what my home is like."

"Go for it! It may seem a little daunting at some points, but it's really worth it."

The next candidate in Jade Pinter of Curtiss and she’s being sponsored by AgCountry Farm Credit Services. Jade explained why she decided to run for Fairest of the Fair, what she’s looking forward to if she’s selected and these words of advice for young girls who may be considering running for a program like this.

"I decided to run for Fairest of the Fair because when I first attended the Clark County Fair, I was two weeks old. I was sitting in my car seat in on my parents and siblings show box as they showed their dairy cattle. I haven't missed a fair yet and I don't plan too until I can't. I think the fair has changed me and helped me develop into who I am today with my love of dairy cattle, love for the county and the fair itself. And I just want to be able to try and share that love with other people and help out in anyway possible."

"I'm really looking forward to being at the fair, handing out the ribbons and congratulate everyone on all their accomplishments at the fair and just to be there and take in all the sites."

"Definitely go out! You only get so many chances to try out. Follow your dreams and do what you want."

The final candidate is a returning member and on last year’s Fairest of the Fair Court. Janalee Kapusta of Neillsville is being sponsored by the Neillsville American Legion and she was last year’s 2nd Attendant. Janalee said she really enjoyed her time on the court and would like to represent the county as Fairest of the Fair.

The Fairest of the Fair coronation is being held on Wednesday, August 8th in the WCCN Radio Tent at the Clark County Fairgrounds. The contestant will also be touring our radio station that day and taking part in live interview with Riles the News Guy on 107.5WCCN that afternoon.
