Second Day of 2018 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days in Wood County Just as Successful as the First

Thursday, July 12th, 2018 -- 11:03 AM

(WDLB) -Governor Scott Walker used Farm Technology Days in Marshfield on Wednesday to announce the members of the Wisconsin Dairy Task Force 2.0.

The Governor directed Agriculture Secretary Sheila Harsdorf and U-W System President Ray Cross to establish the Task Force in early June. It’ll focus on making recommendations on actions needed to maintain a viable and profitable dairy industry in our state.

The Wisconsin Dairy Task Force 2.0 members include the individual heading up this year’s Farm Technology Days in Wood County. Dennis Bangart is an ag officer with Ag Country Farm Credit Services in Marshfield. Two central Wisconsin dairy producers are also in the group. They are Ryan Klussendorf of Broadland Grass Farm in Medford and Amy Penterman from Dutch Dairy in Thorp.
Dr. Mark Stephenson will chair the committee. He is the Director of Dairy Policy Analysis at UW-Madison. The group is working to schedule its first meeting in August. Wisconsin Farm Technology Days have been held annually since 1954. This year’s event is hosted by D&B Sternweis Farms and Weber’s Farm Store and Heiman Holsteins. Daryl and Brenda are having a blast.

Ken Heiman of Nasonville Dairy and Heiman Holsteins is glad to see the community coming together to put the show on. And he says the show is changing the mindset among the farming and processing communities about embracing technology in the ag industry.

The three-day event wraps up Thursday. Among the highlights is a visit by Green Bay Packer linebacker Vince Biegel, who grew up on his family’s cranberry farm in Wisconsin Rapids in southern Wood County. For more information, visit wifarmtechnologydays.com.
