Big First Day for 2018 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days

(WDLB) -Day one of Wisconsin’s Farm Technology Days is in the books.Big crowds were braving the heat and humidity as thousands flocked out to see the latest in farm safety and technology. Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and Agriculture Secretary Sheila Harsdorf helped open the show Tuesday morning. Secretary Harsdorf said the show is a great example of how technology is affecting agriculture in 2018.
Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch spoke during opening ceremonies as well. While farmers are going to work for essentially for no pay, Kleefisch said the Walker Administration is working hard to bring those concerns to Washington’s attention. As for the rest of agriculture, she’s leaving it to the experts, dairy producers, to tackle the biggest challenges of the future with technology.
D-and-B Sternweis Farms are hosting Farm Technology Days, along with Weber’s Farm Store and Heiman Holsteins. JoEllen Heiman says there’s something for everyone at the show, including those from the city or those who did not grow up on farms.
As always, there are field demonstrations, which will consist primarily of alfalfa forage harvesting. Field demonstrations Committee Chairman Mike Gronski says there are morning and afternoon sessions from 10-to-noon and 1-to-3, featuring mowing, merging and chopping.
In the equine area, Meyer’s 10-horse hitch pyramid from Loyal is featured. “Fairest of the Fairs” Isabella Haen from Luxemburg in Kewaunee County got to see the hitch from the driver’s seat on Tuesday.
Haen was crowned in January, and reigns over 75 fairs in the state. Her goal is 45 fairs this summer. On Wednesday, Governor Walker is scheduled at 10 a-m in the Family Living Tent. Also there continues to be grain bin rescue demos, tractor rollover and PTO safety demos as well. Those are centered at the Farm Safety and Rescue Area hosted by the National Farm Medicine Center.
