Successful First Day of 2018 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days in Wood County

Wednesday, July 11th, 2018 -- 9:48 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Perfect weather and a centralized location are being credited for bringing in large crowds during the inaugural day of Wisconsin Farm Technology Days on Tuesday.

The 65th annual farm show kicked off near Marshfield in Wood County, where attendees had a chance to walk in a miniature cranberry marsh, operate virtual construction equipment and test drive a brand new pick-up truck. The Future Generations area also gave kids a chance to learn about agriculture, llamas and talk with industry employers about the careers available after high school. During the event's opening ceremonies, County Extension Agent Matt Lippert, who serves as the executive secretary of the local FTD committee, said the area's agriculture industry is not only diverse, but its products are also known for its quality. "From the many dairy products our local farmers and cheese plants produce to the cranberry industry, Wood County is known all over the world for its good and nutritious food," Lippert said.

Executive Committee Chairman Dennis Bangart also took the opportunity to thank the hundreds of volunteers for giving their time to make the event possible. And eight faithful attendees of the show were honored on stage for their loyalty to Farm Tech Days. Darold Seefeldt of Unity was given a plaque for attending the event for 55 of the past 65 years, with the first being in Wood County back in 1960.

Meanwhile, Wednesday promises to be another eventful day. Gov. Scott Walker is scheduled to speak in the Family Living Tent at 10:00 a.m. And attendees can watch more field demonstrations, view the hundreds of Oliver tractors onsite this year and learn about farm safety at the National Farm Medicine Center's square in Tent City. The local weather forecast for today is calling for partly cloudy conditions with highs in the mid-80s. Farm Technology Days runs from 9:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. today and Thursday.
