Neillsville School Board Hears Achievement Gap Reduction Report

Thursday, June 28th, 2018 -- 8:00 AM

-The Neillsville School Board heard the Achievement Gap Reduction Report at their meeting on Monday.

The report is based on the poverty level of kids at the participating district and it provides funding for various items including reducing class sizes, which Neillsville achieved. The report is done at the end of each semester and looks at student growth through the year and from year-to-year. However, the report can be accessed during the year to assess any areas a student may need assistance with. All of Neillsville numbers were normal for this report. The board also heard an update on school security. The Neillsville School District has submitted an application to the Wisconsin Department of Justice for items to help increase security at the district.

Some items the district is requesting include vestibules at the main entrances that will provide an intercom and visitors will need to be paged in. They will also put security film over the windows by the entrances which will help keep the windows from being shot or kicked out. The total cost for those items would be $44,080. The district now has to wait to hear back from the DOJ regarding whether or not they’re selected to receive grant funding.
