Zurakowski's Walk Off Hit Puts Thorp In Championship

Friday, June 8th, 2018 -- 12:01 PM

Hailey Zurakowski singled to left through a drawn in infield with bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th to score Kasey Moskiewicz with the winning run as Thorp beat Weyauwega-Fremont 5-4 in a Division 4 State Semi-Final on Thursday night.

The Cardinals got on the board first in the first inning after Elektra Zurakowski singled to right and advanced to second on an error by the right fielder. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and after one out, she scored on another wild pitch to put Thorp up 1-0.

That was the score until the top of the 4th when the Indians came up with 2 runs to take a 2-1 lead. That was short-lived however as the Cardinals came back in their half of the inning to score 2 runs on a 2 RBI single by Brooklyn Anderson.

Weyauwega-Fremont scored an unearned run in the top of the 5th to tie the score at 3 but Thorp came back in the bottom of the inning to score a run on an RBI flyout to center by Hailey Zurakowski to take the lead 4-3.

Weyauwega-Fremont would score a run in the top of the 6th to tie the score at 4-4 to set up the bottom of the 7th winning run for the Cardinals.

Thorp out hit the Indians 7 to 6 but they also committed 5 errors to Weyauwega-Fremont's 2. Elektra Zurakowski led Thorp with 2 hits and 2 runs scored while Hailey Zurakowski and Brooklyn Anderson each had 2 RBI's. Kaitlyn Tyznik went the distance on the mound giving up 4 runs, no of which were earned, on 6 hits, striking out 10 and walking 4.

Thorp will now play in the Division 4 State Championship Game on Saturday morning at 10:30 am from Goodman Diamond in Madison. Catch all the action live on 92.7 FM WPKG.
