Kelvin and Marilyn Heiman of Nasonville Dairy Talk 2018 Farm Technology Days in Wood County

Friday, June 8th, 2018 -- 11:32 AM

-In roughly a month, the 2018 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days will get underway in Wood County.

The event, happening from 9am-4pm July 10th-12th at Nasonville Dairy on County Highway H near Marshfield, will feature over 600 exhibitors, innovation square, field demonstrations, virtual farm tours, delicious food and much more. During the Media Day for the event held on Tuesday, I spoke with host family members Kelvin and Marilyn Heiman, of Weber’s Farm Store and Heiman’s Holsteins, about the event and they talked about why they decided host the massive Farm Technology Days event.

Marilyn: "It just seemed like an opportunity to educate as many people as we can in agriculture. The family farms are dwindling down a little bit and there's a lot of kids that don't know where their food comes from. And it's not just your dairy products. It's your cranberries and your honey and your maple syrup. And we thought, what better way to educate as many as we can."

They also talked about some of the surprise that have occurred when it comes to putting this event together.

Marilyn: "I'm sure there have been. I have to be honest, I haven't been real active on the committee end. I have three part time jobs and a daycare center, so I haven't been real available, but every once in awhile I could see my brother in law and sister in law with a heavy sigh, so I'm sure there have been surprises along the way."

And if you’re on the ropes about coming to Farm Tech Days in July, Kelvin said ‘don’t be!’

Kelvin: "You gotta go just to see everything, all the new stuff and all the old stuff. It's for everybody! It's community wide and it's for everybody who would like to see what's there. There's a little bit of everything for everybody. A good day to enjoy it and spend a good afternoon looking at things and talking to people. A lot of people there."

Marilyn: "Bring the family!"

Kelvin: "Bring the family, yes."

Marilyn: "Absolutely."

Once again, Farm Technology Days is happening July 10th-12th from 9am-4pm at Nasonville Dairy on County Highway H near Marshfield.
