Ken Heiman of Nasonville Dairy Talks 2018 Farm Technology Days in Wood County

Thursday, June 7th, 2018 -- 11:30 AM

-In roughly a month, the 2018 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days will get underway in Wood County.

The event, happening from 9am-4pm July 10th-12th on County Highway H near Marshfield, will feature over 600 exhibitors, innovation square, field demonstrations, virtual farm tours, delicious food and much more. During the Media Day for the event held on Tuesday, I spoke with host family member Ken Heiman, of Weber’s Farm Store and Heiman’s Holsteins, about the event and he talked about why they decided host the massive Farm Technology Days event.

"Wrong place, wrong time! Just kidding! You have to bring the program to the center of the state. Wood County is about as close to the middle as you can get. Normally, most people who come to Farm Tech Days are coming from 150 miles away. Kewaunee did a great job, but half of their customer base is fish. They did a great job too, but now we need to exemplify this part of the state because we have the agriculture, we have probably the greatest infrastructure that there is, we also have the greatest cranberry people we could ask for. So, if we have this many things here, we need to exemplify those, so people know what agriculture is about. Are you aware that the other day, 30% of the young people who were asked where cheese comes form, they thought it was not animal based it was vegetable based!? We're missing the boat! We really got to get on this!"

He also talked about some of the surprise that have occurred when it comes to putting this event together.

"There's always surprises. But the biggest surprise of all is that every time there's been a surprise, there's always been an answer. And there's always been an answer with people. People have been absolutely super! People have been more than willing to step up and help us out."

And if you’re on the ropes about coming to Farm Tech Days in July, Ken said ‘don’t be!’

"The educational part of it alone is phenomenal! You'll get to see a lot of new things, but the other thing is that these two farms have stepped up so the next generation has got something. If this is something you want to do, then take a look! Take a look and see what's out there!"

Once again, Farm Technology Days is happening July 10th-12th from 9am-4pm on County Highway H near Marshfield.
