Neillsville Area Players Presenting Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Play

Monday, June 4th, 2018 -- 11:52 AM

-The Neillsville Area Players will present a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious play in just a few short weeks.

The Neillsville Area Players will be performing Mary Poppins in the Neillsville High School Auditorium on June 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 30th and July, 1st. I spoke with Mary Elmhorst, the director, and Dawn Wolf, the director and actor, of the play. Here’s a portion of my interview with Mary and Dawn.

Q: "Why did you decide to go with the play Mary Poppins?"

A: Mary: "Well, I have a philosophy of go big or go home. This is our first time directing, so if we're going to jump in, jump in with both feet at the deep end. And it's always been Dawn's dream to produce Mary Poppins."

Dawn: "It use to be that I thought My Fair Lady would be a great show to do. But the High School just did it, but that took that off the table. Which is fine. And I did not realize that Mary Poppins was released for community theaters. Once they're done with their run on Broadway or other theaters, then they're fair game and they get licensed to community theaters and high schools, so it was really exciting to have access to that show. It's a good message. The message is take a broke and dysfunctional family, bring in a guardian angel nanny and then have a fixed family at the end."

Mary: "It's a good message for this culture that has so much brokenness."

Q: "How is the play progressing?"

A: Mary: "You know, it's an adventure! There have been some roadblocks along the way, but our cast is just delightful! It's going well."

Dawn: "Everyone is doing fantastic. We're just having a blast!

Mary: "It's a big production. There's a lot of music, a lot of dancing and a lot of lines. We're going to put on a show. We're just gonna!"

Q: "When is the play?"

A: Dawn: "Friday, June 22nd at 7pm, Saturday, June 23rd at 7pm, Sunday, June 24th at 2pm, Saturday, June 30th at 7pm and Sunday, July 1st at 2pm.

Q: "What's the cost to get in?"

A: Dawn: "Adults are $10, students and seniors are $9, kids ages 5-12 are $8 and under 5 are free."

Mary: "Tickets at the door!"

Q: "Anything else?"

A: Dawn: "Just come! It's going to be a good date night. Husbands, boyfriends, bring your women! They will love. It will make brownie points for you."

Mary: "Parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, bring the kids!"

Once again, Mary Poppins will be performed on June 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 30th and July 1st in the Neillsville High School Auditorium.
