Thorp Softball Team Heading To State

The Thorp girls softball team will make their 5th trip to Madison after a 13-6 D4 Sectional Final win over Grantsburg on Thursday.The Cardinals got out to a quick start scoring 2 runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed after that. Grantsburg plated a run in the bottom of the first, while Thorp got another run in the 2nd to take a 3-1 lead.
In the third inning, Thorp plated 11 batters on their way to 7 runs on 6 hits to open up a 10-1 lead. Grantsburg would score 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the score to 10-4.
Thorp scored 2 more runs in the fifth and one more in the seventh while Grantsburg got a run in the 6th and 7th innings to make the final 13-6.
Thorp was led by Brittany Rosemeyer and Raleigh Frankewicz with 3 hits as the Cardinals pounded 11 hits total, while Grantsburg had 10 hits in the game.
Thorp will now play Weyauwega-Fremont, last year’s D3 state runner-up, in Thursday’s Division 4 semifinal at Good man Diamond. Game time is 9 pm live on 92.7 FM WPKG.
