A Loyal Man Charged for a Snowmobile Accident that Resulted in a Death Appears in Court

Saturday, April 28th, 2018 -- 7:19 AM

A Loyal man charged for a snowmobile accident that resulted in the death of his passenger appeared in Clark County Court on Friday.

According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, back in February of 2017, they received a 911 call of a snowmobile accident located north east of Catlin Ave/STH 98 in the Township of Sherman.

Steven Lauenstein lost control of his snowmobile when they entered a wooded area and his passenger, 34-year-old Robert Kurz, was ejected and died from his injuries. The sheriff’s department stated that speed and alcohol appeared to be factors in the accident.

During his hearing on Friday, Lauenstein pleaded guilty to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. Four other counts were dismissed and read in.

He is scheduled for sentencing on July 27th.
