Owen City Council Deals with Contentious Resident

Wednesday, April 18th, 2018 -- 8:51 AM

-The Owen City Council had a contentious resident at their meeting last week.

During the public opinion portion of the meeting, Mayor Tom Nelson spoke up on behalf of resident Dennis Looker. Another resident, Dan Hooks, disagreed. Tom Nelson also brought up the police coverage, stating that they do have patrol officers in the area. Once again, Dan Hooks disagreed, stating that it was all right with him regardless, as he has plenty of guns and ammunition. It was revealed later that a deputy did go and talk with Mr. Hooks regarding his comment at the meeting. The council also heard the Community Development Coordinators Report. Tim Swiggum reported that the OW Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expo was well attended. Tim also met with Heartland and their wetland specialist. More wetland delineation needs to be completed as required by the DOT.

He also stated that two test wells need to be dug for the VPLE insurance, which is needed for the Heartland Development. This insurance insures neither the city nor Heartland will be held responsible for any previous contamination. Finally, he stated that April 17th is the date of the meeting for the railroad quiet zone and Growin’ Owen is growing, but still needs volunteers.
