City of Marshfield Continues Discussion on Communications Coordinator Position

Wednesday, April 18th, 2018 -- 8:01 AM

(WDLB) -Marshfield officials continue to explore the possibility of adding a Communications Coordinator position at City Hall.

The city's Finance, Budget and Personnel Committee had the issue on its agenda last night, after the full Common Council voted in January in favor of directing city staff to draft a job description. City Administrator Steve Barg showed the Finance panel job descriptions for similar positions in River Falls, Appleton, Oshkosh and Wauwatosa. Barg says city staff is still trying to define the scope of the position if it's created, and what that person would oversee, in terms of communicating the city's message to the public. Alderman Jason Zaleski said the city does not need a communications coordinator, and current staff can do more to get their messages out.

The concept of the position came from discussions by a special communications team which was appointed by former Mayor Chris Meyer last year to look at ways the city is communicating to the public, and ways to improve that moving forward.
