Wood County Hosting 2018 Farm Technology Days, Part 2

Friday, April 13th, 2018 -- 11:35 AM

-Wood County will be hosting the 2018 Farm Technology Days in July.

Farm Technology Days is being held from July 10th-12th and hosted by the Sternweise and Heiman Families. I spoke with Pat Sternitzky, of the Wisconsin Ag Connection and Chair of the Wood County Farm Technology Days Promotions Committee. Pat continued our interview by introducing the host families.

"D&B Sternweise Farms, Daryl and Brenda, they've been a real innovative family from the get go. Way back in the 1960's, the Sternweise Family actually had the first milking parlor in the area, which is really rare back then. And they only had 70 cows. There are some people to this day that have more than 70 cows in a regular barn. That was pretty innovative back in the 1960s and, of course, through the years they've expanded. They were one of the first families to have robotic milking at one time. Now they have a rotary parlor where they're basically milking their cows on a merry-go-round. They're up to 450 cows now and the family does custom operating too for neighboring farms where they hire out the machinery."

"And then the Heiman's. The Heiman's are a big family in itself. You have Kenny, Kevin, Kalvin who own Nasoville Dairy. Ken's wife, Joellen Heiman, who was a Weber and who took over her family's Weber Farm Store, which has been around for generations. And then their children have Heiman Holstein's, which is located on Highway 10. They're up to 500 cows."

"These two families have done business all their life. They're life long friends and life long neighbors. And they're coming together to do this show. And just another interesting twist, the Heiman's son Josh and the Sternweise daughter Heather have since been married! So, there's no getting out of this now!"

Coming up on Monday, Pat will explain the new features and other attractions that will be at the event.
