Wood County Hosting 2018 Farm Technology Days, Part 1

Thursday, April 12th, 2018 -- 10:38 AM

-Wood County will be hosting the 2018 Farm Technology Days in July.

Farm Technology Days is being held from July 10th-12th and hosted by the Sternweise and Heiman Families. I spoke with Pat Sternitzky, of the Wisconsin Ag Connection and Chair of the Wood County Farm Technology Days Promotions Committee. He began our interview by explaining what Farm Technology Days is.

"Wisconsin Farm Technology Days is Wisconsin's largest outdoor farm show. Basically, what they do is they take a hay field, they plop in a city for three days and then they tear it all down again! And they invite everybody in the state to come and check it out for educational purposes. And obviously it's a trade show for commercial purposes too."

"Basically, the show, it's been around since 1954, it goes from county to county. It's been in 35 counties. A lot of counties have had it twice. Clark County has had it twice. This is the second time Wood County is having it. They had it back in 1960 at the Marshfield Fairgrounds. I remember Malm's had it up in Loyal back in 2005."

"But, basically, it's a farm show. It's July 10th, 11th and 12th. It's going to be just outside of Marshfield west of town at the D&B Sternweise Farms. Co-hosted by the Heiman Family. They have jointed land next to each other. It's been a three year process putting this together, but we're in the final stages with less than 90 days left to go."

"You go to the state and make sure you have the backing, make sure you have farms with enough land and you have the support of the community, as it take a lot of volunteers. This all happened back in 2015 and the state said, Wood County, we're ready for you, and we've been working at it ever since."

Coming up on Friday, Pat will talk about the host families for this year’s event.
