City of Marshfield Elects New Mayor

Wednesday, April 4th, 2018 -- 9:02 AM

(WDLB) -Marshfield's next Mayor will be Bob McManus. He defeated current Alderman Tom Witzel on Tuesday one-thousand-691 to one-thousand-440.

McManus is looking forward to working with Witzel, who is the current district-six Alderman on the Common Council. McManus won seven of the city's 10 districts, plus the Marathon County portion of the city as well. He'll replace incumbent Chris Meyer, who is stepping down after 10 years in office. Jason Zaleski has won another term on the Marshfield Common Council. Zaleski on Tuesday defeated challenger Dave Peterson, to retain his district seven seat. Zaleski defeated Peterson 290-98. Steve MacSwain is Marshfield's newest Aldermen. He ran unopposed for the district-five seat being given up by incumbent Alderman Ed Wagner. Mike Feirer, Chris Jockheck, and Tom Buttke also ran unopposed, and won re-election to their Council seats as well.

Three-thousand-280 of Marshfield's 94-hundred registered voters went to the polls on election day. That's 35-percent voter turnout--and on a day when Marshfield had one of its biggest election-day snow storms in history, City Clerk Deb Hall says that's phenomenal--and it's above average for a spring election. Six of the city's 10 districts had voter turnout above 30-percent, and two districts were above 40-percent--districts three and four.
