(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The sunny, windy conditions Wisconsin experienced last week is all many farmers needed to wrap up their harvest season.

With just one more crop/weather report on the schedule for 2020, field reporters with the Department of Agriculture say temperatures were slightly above normal with daytime highs rising into the 50s and 60s during a mid-week warm spell. Fall tillage and manure spreading also continued well ahead of schedule.  Topsoil moisture levels were rated two percent very short, 11 percent short, 76 percent adequate and 11 percent surplus.  As of Sunday, all but eight percent of the corn for grain harvest was combined, more than a month ahead of last year and 17 days better than the five year average.

The moisture content of the crop was reported at 17 percent.  Ninety-six percent of winter wheat was emerged and is rated 84 percent good to excellent statewide. That's up two percentage points from last week.  And the fall tillage was reported as 79 percent complete, more than four weeks further along than the 2019 level and about a week ahead of normal.
