Audience Questions Posed to Judicial Candidates

Saturday, March 24th, 2018 -- 8:46 AM

During the Clark County Judicial Candidate Forum at the Loyal American Legion Thursday afternoon, audience members were able to ask questions of the candidates. The Clark County UW-Extension Office has provided a copy of those questions.

Questions that were asked to both candidates, Lyndsey Boon-Brunette and Roberta Heckes, included what is your general judicial philosophy, what are your ties to Clark County, to what extent have you practiced criminal law, what problems, if any, do you believe you may encounter moving into the role as judge?

Some questions asked specifically of candidate Boon-Brunette, who was present and answered the questions at the event, included what is your familiarity with the Post-incarceration Support Program; do you believe it is a cost effective program and should a Judge be involved with this program and what is your experience with defending/prosecuting drug related offenses; how do you think drug court will help?

Some questions asked specifically of candidate Heckes, who wasn’t present at the event after multiple phone and email requests, included if you don’t own a home and live in Clark County permanently, what is your incentive to stay, you propose a drug court; how will you fund it and what does this provide the defendant and how many cases have you handled in Clark County?

There were also a couple questions posed that the panel felt were not appropriate for either candidate to answer and they include how do you identify; conservative, moderate, or liberal and what are your thoughts on the 2nd amendment and abortion.
