Owen City Council Hears Update on Police Policies

-The Owen City Council heard an update on Police Policies at their meeting last week.

On March 6th, the Personnel & Ordinance Committees met. The committees are going through Lexipol and using it as their basis of how they want to proceed. Their next meeting is tomorrow at 6 p.m. During the Public Opinion portion of the meeting, a resident once again brought up his sidewalk even though Public Works Director had been over to his house after his last complaint and inspected it. The council also accepted the resignation of the City Clerk. The council thanked Terri Ernst for her time and service to the community, acknowledging that it is not always an easy and sometimes thankless job. Finally, the council heard the Community Development Coordinator’s Report.

Tim Swiggum reported on the OW Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expo being held April 7th at the held at Old School. Thirty-Eight booths are now spoken for, with forty being the goal. A Job Fair being held in conjunction with the Expo. He also mentioned two new members are needed for the DRC and a new business is moving into the Kulp building. Tim has also set up a meeting with federal, state and local officials to start the process of creating a railroad quiet zone in the city limits. The estimated cost of the project will be around $40,000.
