Informational Meeting on Agreement Between Memorial Medical Center and Marshfield Clinic Health System, Part 4

Monday, March 19th, 2018 -- 11:33 AM

-Memorial Medical Center held another informal meeting Tuesday afternoon to provide more information on their recent deal with Marshfield Clinic Health System.

Ryan Neville, CEO and President of MMC, explained the initial steps they took to try and get back to the original amount they were offered for their new facility.

"We know we have a strong primary care base and we know there's volume in specialty care in Neillsville. Meaning, a lot of people leave Neillsville and go to Marshfield or Eau Claire for the specialist. And the more specialist we can provide local, the more revenue we can bring to this organization. So, we knew our ticket to $650,000 more revenue was specialty care. So, we started to look, what path would that be?"

"So, at this point, we looked at different specialist that we work with. We looked at Oak Leaf, we looked at Marshfield Clinic, we even looked further outside. And as we did some of our studies, Marshfield Clinic became a natural fit because 85% of our current patients also go to Marshfield Clinic for specialty care. So, it make sense that in this market, we would work closely with Marshfield Clinic. Now, with the Marshfield Clinic, going into the project, we already had an agreement we were going to lease space to them in our new building because that would give their specialists a home to practice in. The more their specialists practice in our building, the more they use our other services like radiology, labs, physical therapy and more."

"So, we were already in conversation. And the relationship between Memorial Medical Center and Marshfield Clinic is strong. We've been partners for 30 years in one way or another. And that relationship can get deeper it can get shallow, but we co-manage patients every single day. So, it's a relationship that's already established."

Coming up on Tuesday, Ryan will explain how the initial approach of sharing more programs with Marshfield Clinic evolved into merging the two facilities.
