Owen City Council Approves Property Insurance and More

Wednesday, March 7th, 2018 -- 9:04 AM

-The Owen City Council approved renewing their property insurance at their meeting last week.

The council approved the renewal of their property insurance at the annual cost of $15,207. They also approved paying the Clark County Economic Development Corporation the Annual Membership fee of $1,400. During the public opinion portion of the meeting, one resident expressed concern over the amount the city would have to pay their former police chief who’s asking the city to pay his legal fees, damages and other claims. The city has denied those requests. Finally, the city heard the Community Development Coordinator’s Report. Tim Swiggum reported he has another business committed to the Job Fair being held in conjunction with the OWACC Business Expo at the Old School on April 7th. This brings the total number of businesses for the Job Fair up to four. Tim is also working on getting more presenters for the Business Expo along with coordinating the event.

Tim also stated that Heartland has almost finished the feed mill, the office building has yet to be completed, along with the Rail spur and a quit claim deed is needed for a small portion of land the state is signing off on for Heartland. Tim is also moving forward with the America in Bloom program, which is required for a grant. Finally, he stated the Owen table at Farm Technology Days in July will need volunteers.
