Neillsville City Council Approves Several Demolition Bids

Thursday, March 1st, 2018 -- 11:39 AM

-The Neillsville City Council approved several demolition bids at their meeting on Tuesday.

As part of the FEMA grant for several properties on Grand Avenue that were affected by flooding, the city will be demolishing those properties and turning them into green space. The city received separate bids for the properties from 4 companies. The bids for the property at 810 Grand Avenue came in at $6,940, $13,989, $8,282.50 and $14,000. The council chose the lowest bid of $6,940 from Gates Excavating of Neillsville. For the property at 822 Grand Avenue, the city received bids of $7,558, $13,989, $13,945 and $20,500. The council chose the lowest bid of $7,559 from Gates Excavating of Neillsville. Finally, for the property at 823 Grand Avenue, the city received bids of $11,920, $13,721, $8,737.50 and $13,500. The city chose the lowest bid of $8,737.50 from Elmhorst Excavating of Neillsville for that property.

These items were first approved during the Public Works portion of the meeting and then again during the regular Common Council meeting. As FEMA won’t work with private entities, the city had to purchase the properties and FEMA will pay back the city. The council also approved purchasing those properties as they work out the final closing costs and other items.
