Thorp Teacher on Leave After Inappropriate Communication with a Student

-A Thorp teacher has been put on indefinite leave pending an investigation.According to the Thorp School District, authorities, with the cooperation of the district, are looking into inappropriate communication between math and physics teacher Mark Wenta and a high school student. A staff member brought the communication to the attention of administration. Wenta has been with the district since 2009. Counselors and administrators spoke with each student at the high school on Monday.
The district and authorities wouldn’t go into detail on what the inappropriate communication was, but they did say the student didn’t initiate or reciprocate the correspondence. The matter hasn’t reached criminal levels, so Wenta is not expected to be charged with anything, but it will be determined if he violated rules in the employee handbook.
